Westfield Eatery Ranked Among Best in State

A Westfield restaurant was ranked among the 50 best in New Jersey by Zagat.com.

A Westfield restaurant was ranked among the 50 best in New Jersey by Zagat.

Chez Catherine, 431 North Ave. West, a French restaurant in town, was ranked as the 35th best restaurant in the state by Zagat.

The restaurant is described as having “’consistently terrific’ cuisine and ‘impeccable’ service provided in a ‘quiet’, ‘elegant’ setting,” Zagat said, “while some find the prices ‘trop cher’, many consider it their ‘go-to place’ for a ‘romantic’ dinner or ‘special occasion.’”

Chez Catherine received scores of 26, 24 and 26 for food, decor and service respectively. The scores are out of a possible total of 30 points. Zagat calculates ratings on a 30-point scale based on periodic consumer surveys, it said.

  • 26 to 30 represents extraordinary to perfection
  • 21 to 25 is very good to excellent
  • 16 to 20 is good to very good
  • 11 to 15 is fair to good
  • 0 to 10 is poor to fair

Zagat reports the cost of dining at Chez Catherine to be $72.

According to the restaurant’s website, Chez Catherine has been recognized and praised as one of both the best restaurants and best French restaurants in the region by numerous metropolitan area food critics, including The New York Times, The Star Ledger and New Jersey Monthly.

Chez Catherine is open for lunch and dinner. Its hours for lunch are Tuesday through Friday noon to 2:30 p.m. and for dinner, Tuesday through Thursday 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. , and Friday and Saturday 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
