Westfield Fire Department Praised For Preventing House Fire
A couple wrote to the department to thank them for responding to a potentially dangerous situation at their home while they were away.

WESTFIELD, NJ — The Westfield Fire Department was praised by a local couple for preventing what could have been a disastrous incident at their home while they were away.
"Everyone 'did their job' all in an effort to avoid what could have been a really devastating situation," wrote Diane and Robert Power to the department. They highlighted that part of the success was due to the fact that all the systems in their home, meant for prevention, worked together.
On Dec. 2, the couple was out of the house when they received an alert from their home security system, Vivint. The system alerted the couple that smoke detectors were going off in their home and had already alerted the Westfield Fire Department.

"The fire department was at our home within 4-5 minutes," the Power's said.
The couple was able to speak to firefighters through the security system. It turned out that the home's regulatory system failed the furnace and it was running uncontrollably, overheating the house. Fire crews were able to get in and cool the house down before a fire started and without causing any damage to the home.

The couple expressed gratitude to the crews and the Westfield Firefighter's Union published a thank you as well to Facebook, writing "Not all emergencies are the same. Thankfully the alarm system operated as designed, Tour 3 responded with haste, and controlled the scene within minutes. Thank you to Diane & Robert for the kind words!"
