Westfield House Fire On Friday, 3 Treated For Smoke Inhalation: FD

WESTFIELD, NJ — A large fire occurred at a multiple-family home in Westfield early Friday morning, according to Westfield Fire Department.

The two-and-a-half story home at 849 Grant Avenue was surrounded by heavy smoke, and fire showed from the second floor, according to the fire department, who arrived at the scene at around 5:49 a.m.

Fire units confirmed that all residents of the four-family home were safely evacuated, and attack lines were deployed to extinguish the fire.

Three residents were treated on scene for minor smoke inhalation, the fire department said.

The incident escalated to two alarms, bringing in Union County Fire Mutual Aid companies to the scene. Emergency medical services from around the county assisted in providing firefighter rehabilitation.

The fire was placed under control at 6:23 a.m., with Fire Department personnel operating on scene into late morning hours.

The fire was investigated by Westfield Fire Prevention Bureau, Westfield Police Department and The Union County Fire Investigation TaskForce. The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical in nature.

The Westfield Construction Official deemed the dwelling as uninhabitable. Red Cross was requested to the scene for assisting the residents in relocation.
