Westfield Native Receives Prestigious Student Achievement Award

A Westfield native and decorated collegiate soccer player received a prestigious award at Kutztown University.

A Westfield native was recently named as a recipient of a prestigious student achievement award at Kutztown University in Kutztown, Pennsylvania.

Samantha J. Costello, a senior majoring in leisure and sports studies, received the Silver Chambliss Student Academic Achievement Award 2015 in the noteworthy achievements in athletics category, according to Kutztown University. Costello is the most decorated women’s soccer player in the history of Kutztown University and earned her first ever All-America honor in her senior year in 2014 with All-America Second Team recognition from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Costello is one of three All-Americans in the history of the Kutztown women’s soccer program. She will graduate later this month and leaves the university third in Kutztown University school history in career assists with 21, fourth in career goals with 26 and fourth in career points with 73, the university said. Additionally, she was named the 2014 PSAC Offensive Athlete of the Year, Team Captain in 2013 and 2014, 2013 Team MVP and PSAC Athlete of the Week in 2012 and 2013.

The Silver Chambliss Student Academic Achievement Award was founded to recognize individual achievements of graduating seniors at Kutztown University. Students can receive the award in a number of areas, including research projects, original artwork, artistic performances, original writing in literature or meritorious writing in other fields, athletics and service to the community.
