Westfield Police Search For Witnesses To Central Avenue Crash

A 46-year-old woman was hit while crossing Central Avenue and sustained a traumatic head injury.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield police are looking for witnesses to a crash on Central Avenue that left one woman with a traumatic head injury.

The crash happened on Tuesday night — a 46-year-old Westfield woman was hit while crossing Central Avenue by a car driving north. She sustained a traumatic head injury and was unconscious and unresponsive, according to Westfield police.

The woman was airlifted by the New Jersey State Police Aviation Bureau to University Hospital Medical Center in Newark, a state-designated Level 1 Trauma Center.

The crash is under investigation by the Westfield Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau. It was assisted at the scene by the Union County Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit and Union County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit.

Chief Battiloro requests that anyone who witnessed this crash contact Sergeant Thomas Ostrander of the Westfield Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau at 908-789- 6068.

This is an active investigation and no charges have been filed against anyone at this time. The patient remains in critical condition at University Hospital.
