WESTFIELD, NJ — Washington Elementary School is among the state's top public elementary schools, according to new nationwide rankings by U.S. News & World Report.

Washington Elementary was ranked No. 4 on the list and was joined in the top 100 by both Jefferson Elementary School (No. 75) and Franklin Elementary School (No. 97).

U.S. News compiled the rankings of the nation’s best public elementary schools for 2026 on publicly available data from the U.S. Department of Education like statewide assessments and graduation rates. Elementary schools are defined as pre-K-5 or pre-K-6 in the study.

Schools that have a wider grade span only counted their tests through fifth grade.

The report covers around 47,000 public elementary schools ranked at the state and district levels based on publicly available data from the U.S. Department of Education.
