Westfield Teen Robbed, Attacked Downtown: Police

A 15-year-old was beaten and robbed by a group of five people, suspected to be teen boys, according to Westfield Police.

WESTFIELD, NJ — A 15-year-old boy was robbed and attacked by a group of suspected teens in downtown Westfield on Saturday night, according to Westfield Police.

While standing on the 200 block of East Broad Street, police said the teen was attacked by a group of five people, suspected to be teen boys, at around 9:35 p.m.

Police said the suspects punched the victim and knocked him to the ground, at which time they continued to punch and kick the boy.

At some time during the attack, the boy's hat and sneakers were stolen from him, police said. A video of this assault was taken by an unknown part and uploaded to social media.

In recent news, a man was also assaulted and robbed by three people while walking on a trail near Memorial Pool back in March. The three people were wearing hooded sweatshirts and masks at the time of the attack, police said.

At the time, Police Chief Chistopher Battiloro said the man was "targeted and lured," and there was no apparent threat to the community at large.
