Advisory: Bear Sighting in West Orange

West Orange Police reported a bear sighting in the township.

West Orange Police reported a bear sighting in the township.

Police said a bear was sighted in the valley section of West Orange. West Orange Police also said while the mere presence of a bear is not considered a problem, as bears are generally wary of humans, it is important not to tempt the animals to linger in residential areas by leaving food or garbage out.

Additionally, residents were advised to not approach the bear and to never feed bears. Feeding bears is illegal in the state of New Jersey, police said.
