Candidate Forums For West Orange Town Council, BOE (2024 Election)

Candidate forums for the town council and school board races will take place in West Orange. Here's what to know – and who is running.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — The 2024 election season is hitting the home stretch in West Orange.

Two separate candidate forums for the town council and school board races are scheduled to take place ahead of the general election on Nov. 5. Learn more about each event below.

BOARD OF EDUCATION

There are four candidates competing for two open seats on the West Orange Board of Education. Terms last for three years. The candidates are: Jeffrey Lichtman, Brian Rock, Eric Stevenson, and Adam Kraemer.

The West Orange Council of PTAs is partnering with the Civic Leaders of America to hold a candidate forum from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at the West Orange High School media center, 51 Conforti Avenue. The event will also be livestreamed online here.

TOWN COUNCIL

A separate forum will be held for West Orange Town Council candidates on Sunday, Oct. 13. It will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. at Bnai Shalom, 300 Pleasant Valley Way. RSVP is required to attend due to security concerns, and can be done online here (must be received by Oct. 11).

In West Orange, six candidates will appear on the ballot for town council. There are three open seats available; each term lasts for four years.

The candidates appearing on the ballot are Jonathan Redwine, Joe Krakoviak, Joyce Rudin, Doug Adams, Michelle Casalino and Tammy Williams. See Related: West Orange Town Council Race Heats Up (Meet The Candidates)

A seventh candidate – Bill Rutherford, the current council president – is running as a write-in choice after he was excluded from the ballot amid a dispute with the township clerk’s office.
