Construction In West Orange: Water, Gas Main Work Begins

WEST ORANGE, NJ — Water and gas main work kicked off Monday in West Orange, with traffic delays and road closures expected to continue for weeks.

Two separate projects – with work done by New Jersey American Water Company (NJAWC) and PSE&G – were scheduled to begin work on Nov. 27.

Here’s what you need to know about both, according to town officials.

WATER

NJAWC will be replacing the water main and upgrading services along Helen Avenue from Gregory Avenue to Lowell Avenue through their subcontractor, The Shauger Group Inc.

According to an advisory from West Orange town officials:

“This work is expected to take approximately four weeks, weather permitting, and portions of the road will be closed during daytime hours between 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Work on weekends is not anticipated unless needed to maintain the project schedule. When this work is completed, the roads will be made passable and safe but final street restoration will not occur to the spring.”

The water main being replaced was installed in 1927.

GAS

PSE&G sub-contractors will be replacing gas mains and gas services over a two-week period. Three separate crews will be working simultaneously during daytime hours around West Orange.

According to a municipal advisory:

“Traffic delays may occur and access to certain streets may be limited. The West Orange Police Department will be on scene to direct traffic and to work with residents to gain access to homes. The schedule may be subject to change depending on weather. Thanks in advance for everyone’s patience during this temporary inconvenience. Updates to this schedule will be provided as needed.”

Replace Mains – Crew #1

• Northfield Ave between Grand View Ave and Gregory Ave - Nov. 27, 28, 29, 30, Dec. 1,4,5,6,7,8.

Replace Services – Crew #2

• Gregory Ave between Club Blvd and Brook Dr- Nov. 27, 28, 29, 30, Dec. 1,4,5,6,7,8.

Replace Services – Crew #3

• Linden Ave between Northfield Ave & Ardmore Rd - Nov. 27, 28, 29, 30, Dec. 1,4,5,6,7,8.
• Ardmore Rd between Northfield Ave & Linden Ave - Nov. 27, 28, 29, 30, Dec. 1,4,5,6,7,8.
