East Orange Announces New Electronic Waste Pickup Policy

Residents of East Orange can no longer leave electronic waste curbside for collection.

In an attempt to prevent potential hazardous waste from affecting the environment, the City of East Orange will no longer be collecting electronic waste, such as televisions and computers, left for curbside pickup.

The new policy is effective immediately. Residents must bring their electronic waste to the Department of Public Works’ facility at 133 Midland Ave. on Saturdays between 8 a.m. and noon to dispose of their electronics, according to TAPinto.net. Residents will also be able to drop off other recyclable items during these hours each Saturday.

“The ongoing tampering of televisions and electronics before they are picked up has created a potential hazard to the environment,” Public Works Director Christopher Coke said to TAPinto.net. “This new plan for television and electronic disposal allows us to proactively protect our community, minimize environmental impact to soil, groundwater and waterways and ultimately keep our residents safer.”
