“The assignments for the elementary grade level and middle school level are optional. but recommended,” said Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Donna Rando. “It is advisable to review content learned in the previous year during the summer to keep one’s skill sets fresh. The research indicates that students who are engaged in learning during the summer have a greater opportunity for educational success in the following school year.”

Elementary school reading projects are returned to the new classroom teacher during the first week of school. Middle school English Language Arts teachers will collect journals during the first two weeks of school.
