Locals Win in Caldwell College Crime Scene Competition

Two West Orange young scientists were given a staged crime scene to scrutinize with their Forensic Science team at Mount Saint Dominic Academy.

Two West Orange locals, Grace Brand and Caitlyn Dwyer, won the seventh annual Caldwell College Crime Scene Competition along with their Forensic Science team at Mount Saint Dominic Academy this past weekend.

In the competition on March 23 at the college, the young scientists were given a staged crime scene to scrutinize.

A police officer judged the contestants on the manner in which they conducted their investigation, encompassing processing the scene; photographing, sketching and describing it; gathering evidence including fingerprints; performing lab tests; using a computer program to generate a sketch of the suspect; and even interviewing a witness.

Other members of the winning team were Alexandra Agolia, Stephany Aguirre, Angela Benevenia, Mary Fahey, Gabriella Marzullo, Courtney McArdle, Devin Mulligan, Natasha Stroedecke.

Team Moderator is Ms. Ilse DePaolo who teaches a course in Forensic Science at The Mount.  

This is the third victory for Mount Saint Dominic Academy in this event.
