‘Record Breaking’ AP Scores Celebrated In West Orange
Students at West Orange High School posted some "record-breaking" advanced placement numbers last year, administrators say.
WEST ORANGE, NJ — Students at West Orange High School posted some “record-breaking” advanced placement numbers last year, administrators say.
The district’s annual Advanced Placement (AP) awards were held on May 20 in the Library Media Center, recognizing outstanding student academic performance on the AP exams.
West Orange High School currently offers 23 AP courses, according to administrators, who called the 2024 scores “record-breaking.” The latest data includes:

- 104 AP Scholars
- 618 AP exams given
- 333 AP students sitting for exams
- 90% of total AP students with scores of 3 or greater
- Out of 23 AP subject area exams given, with respect to NJ average scores, WOHS either met or exceeded the NJ average scores in 16 subjects (70%).
- Out of 23 AP subject exams given, with respect to National average scores, WOHS either met or exceeded the National average scores in 17 subjects (74%).
Three categories were recognized at the ceremony, which was attended by Superintendent Hayden Moore, WOHS principal Oscar Guerrero, assistant principal Kimberly Mancarella, AP instructors, students and families:
- AP Scholar: granted to students who received grades of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams
- AP Scholar with Honors: granted to students who received an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken and Grades of 3 or higher on four or more exams
- AP Scholar with Distinction: granted to students who received an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP exams and grades of 3 or higher on 4 or more exams.
In a special award created by West Orange High School, students who received scores of 5 in one or more AP exams will be recognized at Senior Awards Night on May 29.
