Rho Gamma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Recognized for Book Drive Benefit

The Rho Gamma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was recognized at the East Orange Board of Education meeting on September 23rd for its outstanding community service efforts. The chapter was honored for collecting over 450 books for students at Benjamin Banneker Academy in East Orange, NJ.
The book drive, held in conjunction with a community tennis event on September 14th at Weequahic Park, was spearheaded by the chapter’s GenNext and Mental Health committees. The initiative not only highlighted the sorority’s ongoing commitment to education but also provided the community with a fun and engaging day of wellness and connection.
Dr. Monica D. Burton, Principal of Benjamin Banneker Academy, expressed her gratitude during the Board of Education meeting. She stated that the books will be distributed to students during the school’s upcoming Back to School Night as part of their Read to Lead campaign, which encourages literacy, leadership, and lifelong learning.
