West Orange Author Visits Kelly Elementary School

WEST ORANGE, NJ — West Orange author Tiberah Berhanu visited Kelly Elementary School on Wednesday to read her new book, "My Uncle is an Alien," to third-grade students.

Students in Mrs. Imperial's and Mrs. Gill's third-grade classes gathered around the author as she read her first children's book to them. According to the ad for the book on Amazon, where it is available for purchase, "What would you do if you found out your uncle is an alien?"

"If you are a curious second-grader named Eli Daniels, you try to keep this big news a secret – until you no longer can. Whether it is at the diner with his dad or during recess, Eli begins to tell those around him this big secret. Come along on the journey and find out where Eli’s imagination takes him in this story that is out of this world!"

Berhanu was born in Ethiopia and emigrated to the United States when she was six years old. She learned a new culture and language and fell in love with books, words, and the ability to express herself. It was then that her passion for storytelling began to emerge.

"Our class loved joining Ms. T on the journey to find out where Eli's imagination will take him," said third-grade teacher Jackie Gill.

"One of those special places was our very own Kelly Elementary School! As Ms. T told them, this book allowed our class to open their imaginations and work hard to make their dreams come true. Our class is anxiously awaiting book number two," she added.
