West Orange Is Hiking Penalties For Parking In Fire Lanes

The fee hike will help put the brakes on rising violations throughout West Orange, officials say.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — West Orange will be hiking penalties for drivers who park in fire lanes in an attempt to put the brakes on rising violations throughout the township, officials say.

The township issued a statement about the upcoming fee increase on Wednesday:

“Please be advised that West Orange Township has approved an increase in violation fees for parking in fire lanes to take effect on July 1, 2024. This is a result of an effort to curtail fire lane parking violations which have been gradually increasing throughout the town. All fire lanes are marked and are reserved for ‘Emergency Vehicles Only’ as a matter of public safety. West Orange officials thank the public in advance for their compliance and cooperation.”

The penalty for parking in a fire lane will be $100, officials said. A second offense violation will be $200, and a third offense or greater will be $500.
