West Orange Jitney Bus Changes Take Effect With Updated Schedules

The changes are being made to reduce wait times and ensure "quicker, more reliable service."

WEST ORANGE, NJ — Multiple service changes to the West Orange commuter jitney bus schedule went into effect this week.

According to a municipal advisory, the changes are being made to reduce wait times and ensure “quicker, more reliable service” during both morning departures and evening returns.

  • ROUTE 7 – Effective August 1, 2025, services on Route 7 shall commence. This route was created by splitting Route 6, aiming to improve efficiency and streamline services to and from the train stations. Routes 4 and 5 will remain unchanged.
  • ROUTES 1, 2 AND 3 – In response to feedback from riders, effective August 4, 2025, Routes 1, 2 and 3 have been adjusted to provide more time for passengers boarding trains to New York City.

West Orange provides free jitney service to three different train stations. The NJ Transit Midtown-Direct train line is only minutes away, bringing riders straight to New York’s Penn Station. The town provides free jitney service to Orange, South Orange and Brick Church stations. The jitney runs in the mornings from 6 to 9 a.m., and evenings from 5 to 8:30 p.m.
