WOODBRIDGE, NJ — Starting this September, the Woodbridge school district now has armed, retired police officers in all 21 of its elementary and middle schools. The officers are there daily and are in uniform.
Woodbridge's three high schools continue to be covered by full-time Woodbridge Police officers, which have long been in place.
But new this year is the addition of retired police officers — full time — in all the district's school buildings. All the officers are armed with a gun.

"Previously, all schools were covered by a hybrid of stationed or roving uniformed Woodbridge Police officers," said Woodbridge school board member Dan Harris. "The district began assigning full-time armed security officers in all schools beginning in September 2023."
Woodbridge school district was able to pay for the security officers in part because it received a substantial increase in state aid this year from Trenton.
