Blue Acres Buyout Info Not Expected Until December

Some flood-damaged homes are eligible for buyouts through the state's Blue Acres program.

The August 15 deadline for Blue Acres buyouts of homes ravaged by Hurricane Sandy has passed, but homeowners won't know if they will receive a buyout until at least December.

According to Woodbrige Township spokesman John Hagerty, a Department of Environmental Protection-created list of buyout-eligible homes is in the process of being submitted to FEMA.

The township has not yet received a notice of which homes are included. That list is expected to come down in December, Hagerty said.

The deadline to apply has passed and no further homes will be considered if they have not yet applied, he said.

The Blue Acres Program has over $300 million in federal aid available for the purchase of as many as 1,300 homes in New Jersey, including some in Woodbridge.

Over the summer, the township sent a letter out to residents advising of the deadline to apply.
