Did Mayor McCormac Break Some Bones? Admin is Silent on Mayor's Fate

The mayor apparently suffered an injury while playing basketball. It's apparently the worst-kept secret in Woodbridge.

Word's been spreading like wildfire for days that Mayor John McCormac suffered an injury last week that included broken bones and has caused his absence from Town Hall.

The township administration was silent about how the mayor is doing. A township employee confirmed that indeed, McCormac had not only broken bones, supposedly in his foot, while playing basketball, but that the mayor had had surgery to repair the fracture.

McCormac spokesman John Hagerty did not return phone calls about the injury. One township citizen reported that when a call was put it to Hagerty to inquire about the mayor's health, Hagerty allegedly hung up on the caller.

The Woodbridge Chamber of Commerce wished the mayor well. They sent out an email that highlighted the mayor's picture with best wishes for a full recovery.

The mayor's broken bones are just the most recent round of health problems plaguing the township's governing bodies. Councilwoman Brenda Velasco was missing from the last council meeting because of a broken bone she allegedly suffered in a fall, while Councilman Gregg Ficarra was welcomed back from a recent hospital stay.

McCormac's mishap happened just days after was unveiled. The new program to whip Woodbridge residents into losing weight by offering cash prizes for those who sign up for the 12-week program quietly replaced the previous weight loss effort, "Moves Like Woodbridge."

That highly touted program from last year, which involved township workers, including Board of Education employees, to dance and exercise for three minutes at a preselected date and time, had unfortunate consequences. A BOE employee fell down the stairs at the BOE building and died from her injuries during the exercise session.
