Residents Leap From 2nd Floor Window Of Burning NJ Home, Police Say
Two people had to jump out of the second-floor window of the home after a fire broke out there Tuesday night, police said.
AVENEL, NJ — Two residents had to jump out of a second-floor window after a house fire broke out on Tuesday, Woodbridge Police told Patch.
On Tuesday night, authorities responded to the fire on Cornell Street in Avenel, where all occupants were evacuated from the home.
Following the fire, police said two residents were treated for minor injuries after jumping out of the home’s second-floor window, while another occupant was treated for minor burns.

In a report from News12 New Jersey, a neighbor told News12 that a dog was also on the second floor of the home, and though police and firefighters tried to rescue the pet, the dog unfortunately didn’t make it.
"I was in my room...I heard a scream...I looked up through my blinds, and I saw a big flame right around over there," the neighbor told News12. "I rushed out of my house, went outside. I saw they were screaming help, help, help."

According to Woodbridge Police, no evacuations were necessary for nearby structures, and the home is “uninhabitable” following the fire.
In an online post, Red Cross New Jersey said their volunteers also responded to the fire, and are helping the displaced family with emergency assistance for temporary lodging, food, clothes and other immediate needs.
The Red Cross, EMS, CERT, OEM, PSEG and Elizabethtown Gas were all notified of the fire and responded to the incident, police said.
The fire is currently under investigation by the Avenel Fire Prevention Bureau, according to the Avenel Fire Department.
