The Jazz Lobsters Give Free Concert March 31 At Woodbridge High School

The well-known jazz band has shared the stage with Bruce, Billy Joel and McCartney, but you can see them for free next Friday in Woodbridge:

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — See the Jazz Lobsters next Friday, March 31 in a free concert at Woodbridge High School.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

The Jazz Lobsters is actually a pretty well-known New Jersey jazz band and they usually have to be booked for weddings and private parties. The band has shared the stage and recorded with such artists such as Bruce Springsteen, The Asbury Jukes, Billy Joel, Jimmy Buffet, Paul McCartney, Charles Earland, Blood Sweat and Tears, Dido and and Tommy Dorsey, to name a few.

But they will perform for free at Woodbridge High School next week as part of a free cultural offering from the Barron Arts Center, "All That Jazz NJ," a concert and poetry series focusing on jazz in New Jersey.

Grant funding has been provided by the Middlesex County Board of County Commissioners and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.

"One of the busiest bands in the tri-state area, The Jazz Lobsters features timeless music of Count Basie, Frank Sinatra, Benny Goodman and more. They do everything from Big Band to Motown hits, dance favorites and rock classics.

The Jazz Lobsters is led by:

  • James "King Salmon" Lafferty, arranger and keyboardist
  • On vocals: Tony Corrao, Carrie Jackson and "velvet-toned" Michael Andrews
  • “Mrs. Lobster" Audrey Welber Lafferty on sax and clarinet
  • Bassist Buddy “Love” Savino
  • Drummer Joe Devico
  • Featured soloists include: Matt Janiszewski -tenor, James Stewart- baritone sax and flute and Adam Machaskee - trombone, Steve Varner - bass.

No reservations needed. Free admission next Friday night. 7:30 p.m. March 31 at Woodbridge High School (1 Samuel Lupo Place, Woodbridge, NJ 07095)
