Man Dies After Car Pushes Him Through Avenel Motel Window

A 62-year-old man was struck and killed by a vehicle Wednesday afternoon.

A 62-year-old man was pronounced dead after he was struck by a vehicle that pushed him through the window of an Avenel Motel on Wednesday around 3:55 p.m., police said.

Edward Domenicucci was standing outside of his motel room at the City Motel on Route 1 in Avenel when Allen Szyrwiel, 62, of Port Reading, pulled into the motel parking lot, struck the victim and continued to drive, pushing him through the window of his room, according to Woodbridge Police Capt. Roy Hoppock.

“It didn’t appear to be malicious or deliberate,” Hoppock said.

Szyrwiel was not traveling at high rate of speed, Hoppock added, but for whatever reason he failed to stop the vehicle.

Woodbridge EMS responded to the scene and tried reviving Domenicucci but were unsuccessful.  Blood was drawn from the driver as standard procedure, Hoppock said.

No charges were filed against the driver. Woodbridge Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
