Middlesex Co. Monitoring Rt. 1 To Reduce Fatal Traffic Accidents
Rt. 1 is targeted "due to high congestion, high volatility of drivers, commercial trucking traffic and the dramatic rise in collisions."
WOODBRIDGE, NJ — The Middlesex County Prosecutor launched an initiative this March to reduce the rise in fatal car accidents in Middlesex County, with an emphasis on Rt. 1.
Rt. 1 is targeted "due to its high congestion, high volatility of drivers, commercial trucking traffic and the dramatic rise in collisions," said the county.
The recent surge in fatal crashes led the county prosecutor to create a multi-town Task Force, formed by police from the Woodbridge Police Department; Edison, New Brunswick, North Brunswick, South Brunswick, Plainsboro and the Middlesex County Sheriff.

Starting in March, the task force will crack down on dangerous driving, particularly on Rt. 1. Task Force members are looking for drivers who "cause the greatest risk to the drivers, pedestrians and pedal cyclists that use the roads in Middlesex County," they said.
"Road safety is a top priority — it is the county’s mission to eliminate traffic fatalities," said Middlesex County Commissioner Director Ronald Rios.
