Craig Coughlin, Yvonne Lopez Retain Their Seats In NJ District 19 Assembly Race

NJ Democratic powerhouse Craig Coughlin and Yvonne Lopez are the projected winners of the 19th district Assembly race:

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — NJ Democratic powerhouse Craig Coughlin and Yvonne Lopez are the projected winners of the 19th district Assembly race, according to the Associated Press.

Coughlin/Lopez were challenged by two Republican women, Marilyn Colon, who lives in Avenel, and Maria Garcia.

Here are the live results for the 19th district Assembly race from Tuesday night:

  • Craig Coughlin, Democrat: 37,044 votes 32.0 percent of the vote (AP projects him as the winner)
  • Yvonne Lopez, Democrat: 36,669 votes 31.7 percent of the vote (AP projects her as the winner)
  • Marilyn Colon, Republican: 20,862 votes, 18 percent of the vote
  • Maria Garcia, Republican: 21,046 votes, 18.2 percent of the vote

Coughlin, who lives in Woodbridge, is very connected to the running of Woodbridge Township: His son, Vincent Coughlin, and his chief of staff Dan Harris and deputy chief of staff Stephen Lally were all appointed earlier this to year to the Woodbridge town council/school board.

Woodbridge is in the 19th state legislative district. New Jersey’s 19th Legislative District is made up of Carteret, Perth Amboy, Sayreville, South Amboy and Woodbridge. Coughlin is also speaker of the New Jersey Assembly.
