Rabid Raccoon Found in Metuchen
The raccoon was killed by a dog in the area of Oak Avenue and Maple Avenue in Metuchen.

A rabid raccoon was recently found in Metuchen, in the area of Oak Avenue and Maple Avenue.
According to a press release from the Middlesex County Office of Health Services, the raccoon was found after an animal control officer responded to a complaint on Thursday, Nov. 7 that a pet dog killed a raccoon in the yard of a house.
The raccoon was sent to the New Jersey Department of Health Laboratory, where it tested positive for rabies, according to the release.

It is the 13th rabid animal found in Middlesex County this year and the third to be found in Metuchen.
The dog had been vaccinated against rabies, but was given an additional booster and has been placed under observation, according to the release.

Rabies advisory flyers are being distributed in the area, according to the release.
