The 'Artists' Flea' Show Curates Unique Handcrafted Items

Just a hop, skip and jump from Woodbridge, the 'Artists' Flea Show' in Rahway looks like an upscale experience not to be missed this Saturday.

One of the more unique handicraft festivals in central New Jersey is right next door to Woodbridge.

In your travels this weekend, you might want to swing by the 'Artists' Flea' show, a curated market of handmade and one-of-a-kind wares, right over in Rahway. The Rahway Arts District is sponsoring the event, to be held on Saturday, April 20, from 10 am to 4 pm at the Rahway YMCA at 1564 Irving Street.

The market will be offering an interesting array of items, including original fine art, crafts by local artisans and designers, jewelry, clothing, and accessories, as well as vintage, antique, and upcycled/recycled products. You can turn it into a day for the whole family, since gourmet foods will also be offered to entice your palate.

The Rahway Arts District plans to make 'Artists' Flea' a regular marketplace where creative artisans can show and sell their wares. Most of the vendors are local artists and small business owners from the New Jersey and New York area.

Up to 24 vendors are expected to attend this Saturday. Some of the unique items buyers can expect are typewriter key cufflinks, hand-glazed earrings, original paper cut designs, screen printed stationery and cards, vintage clothing and accessories, crocheted wire and glass beaded necklaces, handmade soy candles and soaps, vintage posters, and baked goods.

"Artists' Flea is curated to ensure a variety of high quality products and to keep the market experience fresh,” said Rachael Faillace, Rahway Arts District Inc. executive director in a statement."

The 'Soup or Dogs' food truck, stationed outside of market, features - well, specialty soups and hot dogs. Inside, Kim’s InTheMix soul food café will be selling specialty cakes by the slice and hot coffee. Nineteen restaurants and eateries serving lunch are within walking distance of the YMCA, where the market will set up shop.

And as a special treat, visitors over the age of 18 will be eligible to enter a raffle with a door prize specially selected from one of the participating merchants. The YMCA is four blocks from the Rahway train station, and free parking is available in the YMCA parking lot adjacent to the building.
