Who's Running For Woodbridge Town Council, Assembly This Year

These current Woodbridge Council reps seek re-election this year, and will be challenged by the following Republicans:

From Woodbridge, Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin D-Woodbridge) and Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez (D-Perth Amboy) will both seek re-election this year.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — Monday was the deadline to file to run for Woodbridge town council, the New Jersey governor's race and state Assembly seats.

Here is who is running for Woodbridge town Council this year. All the sitting Democratic council reps are endorsed by Woodbridge Mayor John McCormac and are viewed as his slate:

  • 1st Ward: Councilwoman Sharon McAuliffe, Democrat, seeks re-election, challenged by Ken Gardner, Republican
  • 2nd Ward: Councilman Harold R. “Howie” Bauer Jr., Democrat, seeks re-election, challenged by Paul Lund, Republican
  • 3rd Ward: Councilman Cory S. Spillar, Democrat, seeks re-electon, challenged by Bruce Banko, Republican
  • 4th Ward: Councilman Virbhadra N. “Viru” Patel, Democrat, seeks re-election, challenged by Gnanarani “Rani” Deveraj, Republican
  • 5th Ward: Councilwoman Debbie Meehan, Democrat, seeks re-election, challenged by Sam Raval, Republican

In the state Assembly, Woodbridge Township is in New Jersey's 19th legislative district. From Woodbridge, Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin (D-Woodbridge) and Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez (D-Perth Amboy) will both seek re-election this year.

Coughlin lives in Woodbridge Twp.

They will be challenged in the Democratic primary by Michelle Burwell, who is unaffiliated with any slate.

On the Republican side, Maria Garcia and Marilyn Colon will both run to represent Woodbridge in Trenton. They both lost statehouse races in 2023.

The primary election is June 10; the main election is in November.
