Woodbridge Man Accused Of Murdering His Girlfriend Has Violent Criminal Past
Roosevelt Oglesby is accused of fatally stabbing his girlfriend in Iselin Oct. 30. He was convicted in 1991 of a knife-point sex assault.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — The Woodbridge man who police say murdered his girlfriend Oct. 30, fatally stabbing her multiple times inside a home the two shared, has a violent criminal past. He is a convicted New Jersey sex offender, according to New Jersey prison records.
Roosevelt Oglesby, 63, lived with his girlfriend, Marianne Straley, 63, in a home the two shared in the Iselin section of Woodbridge.
At 9:56 a.m. Oct. 30 Woodbridge Police received a 911 call reporting an argument. It was Oglesby who called 911, according to an affidavit released by the Middlesex County Prosecutor. He asked officers to come to the home because he got into an argument with Straley and ultimately stabbed her, "once or twice," according to the affidavit.

In the 911 call, Oglesby told police Straley was "done."
Oglesby was outside the home when police got there, and he started to go back inside. Officers placed him in handcuffs and found Straley in the kitchen area, with multiple stab wounds to the back of her head and neck area, said police.

Officers also noticed a knife on the counter with blood on it.
"(Oglesby) had what appeared to be blood on his shirt ... suspected blood on his right forearm, suspected blood on his left wrist," read the affidavit. "The scene was processed, and a knife was recovered from the kitchen, which had blood on it where the victim was located with multiple stab wounds."
Straley was pronounced dead at the scene. Oglesby was charged with first-degree murder and illegal weapons charges for the knife police say he used.
Ogelsby was convicted in 1991 for aggravated sex assault against a woman, according to these state prison records. This happened in Middlesex County; the town was not named. Police say he threatened a woman with a knife, kidnapped her and raped her. He is classified as a Level Tier 2 offender, with a moderate risk of repeating his 1991 crime.
Straley and Oglesby co-owned the home together, NJ101.5 reported.
In her obituary, Straley was mourned by her family as a beloved mother of three adult children, plus a grandmother, sister and aunt.
