Woodbridge Reopens Cafe Staffed Entirely By Special-Needs Teens

Stop by the cafe at Cypress Recreation Center from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Monday-Friday for lunch prepared and served by local Woodbridge teens:

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — On Thursday afternoon, Woodbridge officially reopened Mayor Mac's Cafe at Cypress Recreation Center.

This cafe is where Woodbridge students with special needs serve the public. Students in Woodbridge's R.I.S.E. program (Reaching Individual Student Excellence) wear blue aprons and work as hosts, waiters/waitresses, cooks and more.

The cafe serves a wide variety of food made with fresh ingredients.

The cafe is part of Woodbridge Township's efforts to help special-needs students transition from school to adult life, while they receive on-the-job training and workplace preparation.

The cafe is located inside Cypress Recreation Center at 881 West Avenue in Port Reading.

The public is invite to stop by and experience the breakfast and lunch menu at Mayor Mac's Café. The cafe is open Mon. – Fri. from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM when school is in session. Reservations not required. Call (732) 596-4165 for information or order takeout.
