By the Numbers: Team Up to Tidy Up, Shred Fest

A pair of environmentally friendly events last weekend had a real impact. Find out just how much of an impact they had here.

The Township of Wyckoff went a long way toward keeping their community clean and green with its Team Up to Tidy Up and Shred Fest events last Saturday morning.

Team Up to Tidy Up by the numbers:

  • Over 150 volunteers showed up at town hall to help collect litter.
  • Trash was collected from over 25 quasi-public locations.
  • Approximately 61 bags of trash and 33 bags of single stream recyclable materials were collected.

Shred Fest by the numbers:

  • The Wyckoff Green Team along with student volunteers had over 300 residents pass through to drop off their documents.
  • That’s about 100 cars per hour or 1.6 cars per minute.
  • Approximately 4,000 lbs. of shredded recycled paper was the result.
  • According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, for every ton (2,000 lbs.) of paper that is recycled and redirected into post consumer production, 17 trees are allowed to grow and are not required as raw material for the production of paper.
  • That's 34 trees. Great job by all involved.
  • The Township's Nifty-Fifty program's goal is to increase the residential recycling rate by 50 percent; it's currently at 31.4 percent.
