Letter: GOP No Friend of the Environment

Republicans can't claim preservation among principles

To the Editor:

In a recent letter supporting the incumbent candidate in the Wyckoff Republican primary, the author said that "environmental conservation" was one of the principals of the Republican party. Which Republican party would that be? The Republican party has done all in its power to weaken the rules that are responsible for cleaning up our air and water since the first legislation was introduced 40 years ago.

The Republican party has not supported environmental conservation at the federal, state or local level, which is where our appointed boards grant variance after variance, completely ignoring our Master Plan. The Republican Party has its principles, but environmental conservation certainly isn't one of them, and writing it doesn't make it so.
