'Related' Homicide, Suicide Investigated In Garfield: Prosecutor
The homicide victim was 'lying in a pool of blood' in a basement apartment, authorities said.
BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Authorities are investigating the related homicide and suicide Saturday of two men who lived at the same Garfield apartment.
A man was struck and killed by a NJ Transit train at about 3:53 p.m. in a suicide, said acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo. Authorities found the man's lifeless body underneath the train.
While investigating the suicide, at 10:26 p.m., Garfield Police received a 911 call that a man was unconscious and lying in a pool of blood in a basement apartment on Macarthur Avenue, Calo said.

Police determined the man was dead and contacted the prosecutor's office, Calo said.
An investigation revealed that the man found at the apartment was attacked and killed.

The investigation is ongoing, but authorities believe the "two deaths are related," Calo said.
The men's identities were not released pending notification of their next of kin.
The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office's Major Crimes Unit, the Garfield Police Department and the New Jersey Transit Police Department are conducting the investigation.
The Bergen County Medical Examiner's Office is conducting autopsies of the two men's bodies.
No further information was released Sunday night.
