Teen ID’d In Fatal Bergen County Fire: Prosecutor

A 16-year-old boy was identified as the victim of a fatal Thursday house fire in Bergen County, authorities said.

MIDLAND PARK, NJ - A 16-year-old boy was identified as the victim of a fatal Thursday house fire in Bergen County, authorities said.

Alexander Lopez-Pena was found dead on the first floor of a home at 222 Franklin Avenue at around 6:30 p.m., Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.

Additional occupants of the home were transported to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood for treatment of “unspecified injuries,” Musella said.

An initial investigation from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Midland Park Police Department found that the death was not the result of criminal activity, Musella added.

The fire is currently under an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office (under the direction of Chief Jason Love) and the Midland Park Police Department (under the direction of Chief Michael Powderley).
