Wyckoff Police Cruiser Totaled, Woman Injured During Traffic Stop

A routine traffic stop turned into a multiple-vehicle accident after a female motorist lost control of her car.

Wyckoff officers narrowly escaped injury after a motorist lost control of her vehicle and slammed into two police cruisers on Monday afternoon.

The Record is reporting that Officer Mark Tagliareni had stopped a car at around 2 p.m. along the shoulder of the northbound lanes of Route 208 near Cedar Hill Avenue. Officer Tom Tully responded to the scene to assist, and was standing between his cruiser and the guard rail, behind Officer Tagliareni’s car, when a female motorist suddenly lost control of her car. Authorities say the out-of-control vehicle bounced off the center divider and smashed into the rear of Officer Tully’s police cruiser after crossing two lanes of traffic.

The police cruiser was forced from the impact into the traffic lanes, but no other vehicle struck the car. The Toyota belonging to the female driver then hit the back of Officer Tagliareni’s cruiser.
