Wyckoff School Budget: Average $139 Increase per Household

The Wyckoff Board of Education braved last night’s snowstorm to hold their public meeting at Dwight D. Eisenhower Middle School and discuss the 2013-14 proposed budget among other items.

“This budget leaves us with an average increase of $139 per home assessed in Wyckoff,” said Superintendent of Schools Richard Kuder. "There are very high standards for education here in Wyckoff and balancing the budget while living up to those standards is very important."

Kuder delivered a presentation that broke down the workings of the proposed budget. The presentation can also be found attached to this Patch article. A formal budget meeting hearing was scheduled for Thursday, March 20 at 7 p.m. in Eisenhower Middle School.

“The district was eligible to go break the 2 power cap and increase by as much as 3.08 percent. However the district has decided not to go that far and has settled on an increase of 2.46 percent,” said Kuder.

The budget was not finalized or approved on Monday night but it should be approved within the next 72 hours. The board plans to adopt the proposed budget at Thursday’s meeting.

“We will be approving the budget on Thursday,” said School Board President Rob Francin. “The state requires that we hold an official hearing within certain dates and tonight’s meeting was not one of those dates.”

The State is expected to contribute $838,014 in aid for the 2013-14 school year after the state contributed $838,013 last year. The total budget for the school year is $38,715,670.  Check back Friday morning for confirmation on the finalized budget.
