Source New Mexico Wins 23 Awards In Society Of Professional Journalists Contest

The contest judged more than 1,750 entries from more than 100 news outlets and freelancers in New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming and Utah.

Over the weekend, Source New Mexico staff and contributors brought home 23 awards from the 2023 Top of the Rockies Excellence in Journalism Contest.

The contest judged more than 1,750 entries from more than 100 news outlets and freelancers in New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming and Utah.

Source NM won first place in 10 different categories for reporting on election denialism, medical debt and issues in state prison. The publication’s expansive coverage of the Hermit’s Peak-Calf Canyon Fire won multiple awards and placed in several categories with work from multiple reporters. Source NM also won for best news photo, and in a stunner, best sports photo.

Five freelance contributors were honored for their work last year, too. Judges looked at work published in 2022, which is the second year of operation for Source NM.
