• Bechtel-led SIMCO awarded three-year WIPP contract extension (ans.org) — Carlsbad’s DOE Field Office has extended SIMCO’s contract to run WIPP through at least 2029 after strong safety and performance reviews. The Bechtel-led team finished major ventilation upgrades early and under budget, exceeded waste-shipment goals, and logged over 2 million safe work hours in 2025 without lost-time injuries.
   

• New program to help clear New Mexico skies (krwg.org) — Air quality rules under the Regional Haze Program aim to cut pollution at Carlsbad Caverns National Park and other treasured New Mexico landscapes, improving views and health. The plan targets 23,000 tons of emissions a year by tightening controls on major sources, after seven years of work by state and federal agencies.
