• A new alert for missing Native people has been issued just six times. State police deny most requests. (nmindepth.com) — Gallup police have requested 11 Turquoise Alerts for missing Native people, but state police approved only two, often rejecting cases under a narrow legal definition of “missing person.” Local leaders and lawmakers now want the statute revised so more families in Gallup, Farmington, and nearby Navajo communities can quickly trigger alerts when loved ones disappear.
