Logan Gaines is a real estate agent based in Michigan, who is also a writer who will be publishing his first book this spring, titled, “The Unexpected Miracles of 1957.”

In a recent interview, Gaines states, “ I remember at a young age that I toyed with the idea of writing a book. I remember in fourth grade asking my teacher if I could go over a small book I put together with her, and over time I would mess around with these blank sample books that were the size of phone books, and write in them. I took the next step when I was in high school, which led me to knowing that I must continue to write.”
Continuing, “I was asked to write a short story, from a simple picture and sure enough I went to town. I turned that short story into a much longer story than my teacher even wanted it to be.Then in 2013, I was bored one night after the Sunday night football game. I remember laying on the ground as I wrote my first book. It was all a fun thing to say to someone, “oh, hey, this is a book I wrote.” I could put it on the shelf, and say, hey I wrote that and I thought this is pretty cool. As time went by, I truly kept hearing so many nice words of my story. That being said, I always wanted to write, and so I do continue to write and I always will. Concluding, “I felt as if everyone thought that the guy with dyslexia would not be able to write books, but here I am. My doubt came to pass and the belief that I could become an author was firmly planted and finally flourished.”

Logan Gaines discussed why the 1950’s is the era that he highlights in his book.

Gaines states:

“I was going through a phase in my life where the 1950’s era really caught my eye. What made this happen for me was watching the film American Graffiti. I remember watching it almost every night at one point, it was exciting and brought back the 50s era for a night. The cars were thrilling and they had a unique look that today's cars don’t have. There was the charm of Wolfman Jack. I just laid back and wondered how it was back then. It then hit me, I could write about it, and I could live through that time in my own way through my writing. So I started to think of all the ways I could do it, and all the fun I could have. I wanted it to be my own way.”

How the author hopes to inspire the readers

“Well, I feel that everyone needs to pick me up after a long day; I know I do. We all need something to bring our hopes up when feeling a bit down. Life can seem to be a roller coaster at times, there are ups and downs and I want to put the focus on showing that perseverance matters and life matters. I want to be someone who brings some joy and entertainment to others before they go back to the world they know. Reading a book provides a sense of escape. Sometimes it’s fun to escape life for a few hours through reading.

The Characters

“Taylor Augustine is the main character of “The Miracles of 1957”, he feels as if he has had an incredibly difficult and saddening life. And to an extent, at least at first, he let it affect him, he let what he focused on affect him. At some point in the story, he sees the value of continuing to persevere and to see all of the good in life, and truly he eventually embarks along a much more hopeful, new path in life. Part of his inspiration was from a character I referred to as “Mr. Reason,” a guardian angel sent to him from God.

Taylor, the main protagonist in the story, begins to understand that life is in fact precious and a gift. Sometimes people can forget to see that life is a beautiful gift; there are always blessings. Life builds us mountains for us to climb, and sometimes people create their own mountains for a multitude of reasons. Taylor fights the good fight to see the good, and then he sees a greater picture, and he is rewarded for seeing the goodness that is found in life.

Mr. Reason works for God, to be the voice of reason and to inspire hope, especially for those who are having trouble finding all of the good to be found in life. There is always light and there is always hope.” After Taylor sees the beauty in his own life, Mr. Reason grants him a wish, and Taylor chooses to relive some of his time as a teenager, and while he is getting a surreal glimpse experiencing his earlier years, enjoying every moment, Taylor chooses to help inspire others too to say some kind encouraging things to people so their life in the future changes for the better too, saving lives in the process because he steps back into his past able to inspire them. It shows the power of kindness and inspiration to make a positive difference in people’s lives.

The importance of Writing for Forthcoming Author, Logan Gaines

“It’s like therapy for me at times, I get away from everyday life for a bit and just write. I enjoy feeling recharged after working a long day by writing; it’s my third job, and I love it.
Writing is a fun job to me, and my reward for a long day.
To me, there is nothing better than to sit outdoors as the wind blows, and look up at the sky before and while I write. I feel as if I am getting all of the stress off my shoulders, and I do feel strongly that I can make a great impact in this world, but I have to be very perseverant to make it happen. If we all can contribute a couple or a few hours a day to a dream it can come true, and with faith, a lot of hope and work, you can make that effort happen. Remember that, because you have the greatest gift of all, gifts and talents unique to you, and you should make the most of it everyday.”
