Astoria Gun Buyback Event Yields 45 Weapons

ASTORIA, QUEENS — The Queens District Attorney's Office and the NYPD took 45 weapons off the streets this weekend thanks to a gun buyback event in Astoria.

Individuals who stopped by the event Saturday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church could turn in working guns in exchange for $200 bank cards.

Officials handed out $25 bank cards for rifles, shotguns, BB guns and air pistols.

"Every gun turned in this Saturday is a potential tragedy averted," Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said in a statement. "This is the public’s opportunity to help us put a stop to bloodshed by turning in firearms.”

Saturday's event was the third gun buyback hosted by Katz's office this year.
