ASTORIA, QUEENS — In a city that prides itself on being a pizza town, an Astoria pizzeria has received a new honor: it's one of the best pizza shops citywide, according to a new list.

The 29-pizzeria list, which was published in TimeOut New York, ranks dollar slices and fancier pies from all five boroughs, as judged by the magazine's "experts."

Rizzo's Fine Pizza, the home of the "original thin crust square" since 1959, came in 20th on the list — the only pizzeria in Queens to make the cut.

When it first opened at 3013 Steinway Street, the only slices served at Rizzo's were "thin, crisp, saucy slices" sans toppings, according to the pizzeria's site.

As TimeOut pointed out, the menu has expanded since then, but the signature slice "will keep you coming back."

"The formula includes copious amounts of rich, tangy tomato sauce with a single slice of mozzarella, flanked by bits of sharp and mild grated cheeses. All of these rest atop a thin, crispy, gas-powered oven crust," according to TimeOut.

The pizzerias that earned the top three spots in TimeOut's ranking were Di Fara Pizza in Midwood, Lucali in Carroll Gardens and Ops in Bushwick.

Although no other pizzerias in Queens made the list, other spots in the borough have been ranked among the nation's best in the past.
