5 Inches Of Snow To Hit NYC This Week, Forecasters Say
Holiday travelers should prepare for major slowdowns, forecasters say.
NEW YORK CITY — A snowstorm is heading toward New York City this week, with a 100 percent chance of hitting the city on Friday, forecasters at the National Weather Service said.
According to the latest forecasting models, there will be a slight chance of snow and rain on Thursday morning, which is Christmas, but no accumulation is expected.
Then, snow will start again on Friday afternoon, packing a punch with anywhere between 3 and 5 inches of powder overnight, before it slows down on Saturday afternoon.

"An accumulating, plowable snowfall is becoming more likely Friday afternoon into Saturday," forecasters at the National Weather Service said.

The snow could make post-holiday travel difficult in the New York City metro area, AccuWeather meteorologists said.

"This fast-moving storm will pack a punch in the Northeast right after Christmas. Holiday travelers should prepare for major slowdowns on roads and at airports," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Tyler Roys said.
Here's the latest forecast from the National Weather Service.
Wednesday night: Increasing clouds, with a low around 31. Calm wind.
Thursday: A slight chance of rain and snow before 1 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 44. Southwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
Thursday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 23. Wind chill values between 15 and 20. North wind 6 to 8 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.
Friday: A 40 percent chance of snow after 1 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 30. North wind 3 to 7 mph.
Friday night: Snow. Steady temperature around 29. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.
Saturday: Snow likely, mainly before 1 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 34. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.
Saturday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30.
