Astoria’s Kristen Gonzalez To Host Inauguration Event In Queens

ASTORIA, QUEENS — The democratic socialist Kristen Gonzalez will be sworn in as senator in Queens after a hectic week in Washington D.C.

Gonzalez will host an inauguration event on Jan. 19 at 6 p.m. in Astoria, according to her webpage.

The swearing ceremony will be followed by a reception featuring Queens DJs the Disco Twins and food from the 59th District, which Gonzalez represents.

Gonzalez won big over moderate Elizabeth Crowley in the 59th District Democratic primary, representing parts of Greenpoint, Williamsburg, and Long Island City.

She was officially sworn in as a senator on Jan. 4. "It means a lot that as of today, the youngest woman to ever be elected to the NYS Senate is a Latina and a Democratic Socialist," she wrote on Twitter.

Gonzalez was named chairperson for the Committee of Internet and Technology.
