Burglar Sneaks Into Astoria Home Through Window, Swipes Cash: Police

A man was caught on camera removing a window air conditioner in order to break into an Astoria home, according to police.

ASTORIA, QUEENS — A burglar swiped cash and a smartphone from an Astsoria home by sneaking in through a window, according to police, who are searching for the suspect.

The man broke into a home near the corner of 49th Street and 30th Avenue on Oct. 28 around 5:30 p.m., by removing an air conditioner from a rear window to gain access, according to police.

Once inside, he grabbed about $200 in cash and an iPhone 7 from the kitchen table, then walked out through the front door, police said. Nobody was injured.

Police on Tuesday released surveillance images showing the suspect grabbing hold of the air conditioner outside the home.

Police described him as a man in his 40s with a medium build, last seen wearing a black jacket, black pants and black shoes.
