Corrections Officer Shot Outside Astoria Nightclub: NYPD

The off-duty officer, 31, was shot shortly before 5 a.m., possibly over his jewelry, CBS reported.

ASTORIA, NY — An off-duty corrections officer wearing a gold chain and Rolex watch was shot outside an Astoria nightclub early Saturday morning, according to a report from CBS. Detectives believe he was attacked because of his jewelry.

The off-duty corrections officer was assaulted outside of 32-55 Steinway St., an NYPD spokesman said.

"Upon arrival, officers uncovered the 31-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the left leg," the spokesman said.

The victim was sent to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst and is expected to survive, according to the spokesman.

Police flooded Steinway as the officer was taken away by ambulance and scoured the streets searching for three suspects, who fled in a black sedan, CBS reported.
