Daytime Astoria Burglary Prompts NYPD Safety Warning To Residents

A daytime burglary Saturday around the corner from the local police station prompted the NYPD to warn Astoria residents to take precautions.

ASTORIA, QUEENS — A daytime burglary around the corner from the local police station this weekend prompted the NYPD to warn Astoria residents to keep their windows and doors locked and to consider purchasing security systems.

Two men stole $100 cash and $300 worth of jewelry from an apartment on 34th Street just south of Astoria Boulevard Saturday afternoon, according to NYPD Detective Sophia Mason, a spokesperson for the department.

A 66-year-old woman told police she came home Saturday after an employee in her building called her to report that her window was open, then found that someone had ransacked her bedroom.

There were no signs of damage or forced entry, according to the police.

The NYPD is looking for two suspects in connection with the burglary, which happened just around the corner from the 114th Precinct police station.
