Post-Christmas Storm In NYC: See Latest Timing, Snowfall Predictions

A winter storm watch remains in effect for New York City ahead of Friday's storm, with significant snowfall anticipated.

If you're planning to travel Friday, do it early. That's the message from the National Weather Service, which is continuing to predict a winter storm will bring 8 inches of snow, possibly more, to New York City and surrounding areas.

The winter storm watch remains in effect beginning 4 p.m. Friday and continuing through 1 p.m. Saturday, the National Weather Service New York office said.

Snowfall of 4 to 8 inches is possible and as much as 10 inches is a "reasonable worst case scenario," the forecast says, with snow falling at 1 inch per hour, with an outside chance of as much as 2 inches per hour. The snow will start off light and dry but get wetter and heavier as the storm progresses, the forecasters said.
