Fake Federal Agents Kidnap Man In Long Island City, Police Say

Men posing as DEA agents forced a man into his own car at gunpoint in Long Island City, robbed him, then dumped him miles away, police said.

LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS — A group of men posing as federal agents attacked a man in Long Island City, forced him into his own car and then dumped him miles away after robbing him, police said Thursday.

The Aug. 10 incident began as the 31-year-old victim was walking along Dutch Kills Street near Jackson Avenue, below a Queensboro Bridge on-ramp and steps from a parking lot filled with NYPD vehicles, according to police and video footage.

A group of unidentified men pulled up in a black Chevrolet Camaro, flashed a firearm, identified themselves as agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration, and began hitting the man in the head and across his body with guns and fists, police said.

Surveillance video released Thursday shows one of the men chasing the victim down the empty street, then dragging him by the neck and forcing him into his own car, according to police.

After covering the victim's head, the men rode with him in his car until they reached the intersection of Myrtle Avenue and 88th Street in Glendale, Queens, police said.

After taking his wallet, about $1,700 in cash, a cell phone, and a debit card, the men dumped the victim at that intersection before fleeing in his own car, police said.

The man was taken to Jamaica Hospital for bruising and cuts to the face, police said.

Police released video Thursday showing the initial attack, as well as a clip of two of the suspects riding in an elevator. Police described the suspects only as men wearing masks.
